Kiefer the Forest Dragon (Life-size Baby Dragon Pattern) – My Pattern Journey

Pattern Review:

I have had this pattern on my Pinterest for what feels like YEARS! I’ve wanted to make this for my first daughter for a while, and so naturally, I decided to take on the biggest stuffed animal pattern I could find two months before Christmas. I need a deadline, I guess.

The Colors and Design

Since I’m making this dragon for my 3-year-old, I decided to make it in her “FAVORITE COLOR OF THE RAINBOW!!” – we are going with construction worker orange. I put the image from the pattern into AI to see what some floral embroidery would look like on top to give it a cottagecore vibe, and I instantly fell in LOVE. While I know that AI is a touchy subject for some (you either love it or hate it) it’s an easy way to get a quick mockup in many cases. Here are the results that I’m basing my design on:

The Body

I’m on day 4 of actually making the pattern, and so far it is easy to follow and understand! The pattern calls for a different yarn, but this one is only slightly thicker. The ending measurement of the piece according to the pattern is 8 feet from nose to tail, so hopefully the small difference doesn’t give me a 10-footer! Our house isn’t huge, and I’m already getting a small side eye from my husband about where this thing will live when I’m finished with it.

If you want to create this pattern yourself, you can find a direct link to the pattern above. The store does occasionally take breaks here and there so keep checking back if they are catching up on orders.

The yarn I am using is Walmart brand standard acrylic-most similar is the Red Heart standard acrylic.
